What You Need to Rent a Car in Armenia

Renting a car in Armenia is refreshingly straightforward for visitors. Arrive with the right documents and you'll be on the road quickly. Here's the core checklist, plus the extras that apply if you're younger, paying by card, or planning to cross into Georgia.

The core checklist

Almost every rental in Armenia requires:

  • A valid driver's license held for the supplier's minimum period (often 1–3 years)
  • Your passport (and visa/entry stamp if relevant)
  • A payment card in the main driver's name for the deposit
  • To meet the minimum age — typically 21–23, sometimes with a young-driver condition
  • An International Driving Permit if your license isn't in Latin script

The deposit and extras

Most suppliers hold a refundable deposit on a card, released after you return the car undamaged. Additional drivers, child seats and one-way drop-offs usually cost extra and are cheapest added at booking. If you'll drive into Georgia, you'll need to arrange a 'green card' insurance in advance.

FAQs

A valid driver's license, your passport, and a payment card in the main driver's name for the deposit. If your license isn't in Latin/Armenian script, bring an International Driving Permit too.
