Jermuk is Armenia's most celebrated spa resort, set at 2,080 m above sea level in the Vayots Dzor highlands. The town is famous for its naturally carbonated mineral water (bottled and exported across the region), a dramatic waterfall on the Arpa River, and the Soviet-era Drinking Gallery where you can sample different springs. The drive from Yerevan climbs steadily through wine country and mountain passes — beautiful but demanding enough that a compact SUV is more comfortable than a low-clearance hatchback, especially in early spring when snow lingers on the upper road.
Trip highlights
- Jermuk waterfall — a 68 m cascade through a volcanic gorge
- The Drinking Gallery — mineral spring pavilion offering several distinct waters
- Highland hiking trails and cross-country skiing in season
- Natural pairing with Noravank and Areni on the same southern route
